Planning an open plan floor
Desks come first, and in open plan that usually means bench desks: shared frames, lower cost per seat, tidy cabling down the spine. Give each bank power through Volta under desk modules and connecting chain cables rather than a nest of extension leads, and put a pedestal or bank of lockers behind every few seats so the desktops stay clear. Seating splits naturally into task and operator chairs for most of the floor and something from the executive ranges, a Xenon or a Zure, where it is earned.
Then deal with the noise you have just created. Open plan floors work when speech does not travel, so screen the banks with desktop screens and break the room up with the rest of the acoustic range. A quiet corner of soft seating gives people somewhere to take a call or a coffee without leaving the floor.
