If your office sounds like a swimming pool, hard walls are usually the culprit. Acoustic wall tiles from the Sch! range fix that at the surface where sound bounces: sets of four upholstered tiles that mount straight onto plasterboard or block walls and soak up the chatter before it echoes back. They are the simplest piece of our acoustic solutions to retrofit, because nothing on the floor moves and a pair of sets can noticeably calm a meeting room in an afternoon.
Where acoustic tiles earn their keep
Start with the rooms people complain about. Meeting rooms with glass on one side and paint on the other three are the classic offender, and a wall of tiles opposite the glass makes video calls instantly clearer. Open plan areas usually need help at both ends: tiles on the walls, and acoustic baffles overhead if the ceiling is high and hard. The Sch! tiles come as a set of four, so you can map out coverage in blocks and add more sets later without anything looking like an afterthought.
Placement matters more than quantity. Tiles at seated head height, roughly a metre to two metres off the floor, catch the sound people actually make. Behind a row of desks they do quiet work all day; in a corridor they stop the clatter travelling. If the noise problem is between desks rather than off the walls, desktop screens are the better first move, and floor screens will break up a large room without any building work.
Beyond the walls
Tiles are one layer of a quieter office. For focused work or private calls, privacy booths and pods give people somewhere to escape to, and softer furnishings from our soft seating ranges absorb more sound than most people expect. If you are fitting out a boardroom, pair the tiles with meeting room tables sized so voices carry naturally rather than being raised.
