Open plan offices with hard floors and glass walls have nowhere for noise to go, and ceiling baffles are usually the cleanest fix. We carry the Sch! range of acoustic ceiling baffles: the Shade design in Types A, B and C, and the Hatch design in Type D, all suspended from the soffit where they absorb sound on both faces. Baffles work best as part of a wider acoustic scheme, alongside desktop screens at the workstation and floor screens between teams.
Choosing acoustic baffles
Baffles hang vertically rather than sitting flat against the ceiling, which is what makes them so effective: sound reaches both sides of every panel, so you get roughly double the absorbing area of a flush tile for the same footprint. The Shade baffles come in three profiles, Types A, B and C, so you can run a repeating pattern down the room or mix them for a more architectural look. Hatch, the Type D design, has a more open lattice feel that suits receptions and breakout spaces where the ceiling itself is on show.
Coverage matters more than perfect placement. Start over the noisiest zone, usually the middle of the open plan floor, and hang baffles in rows across the space rather than clustering them in one corner. Rooms with plasterboard ceilings and hard floors need more coverage than carpeted ones. If the problem is a single loud meeting room rather than a whole floor, acoustic wall tiles are often the better starting point.
Beyond the ceiling
Baffles tame the general hum of a floor, but they will not give anyone privacy for a call. For that you want privacy booths and pods, which we install alongside baffles on most bigger jobs. Echoey breakout and canteen areas usually respond well to a mix of both.
Acoustic baffles in Belfast and across Northern Ireland
Office Interior Solutions supply and fit acoustic products for offices in Belfast, Lisburn, Newtownabbey, Antrim and Bangor, and further out to Derry and Newry. Ceiling work is not a job for a volunteer with a stepladder, so our installers hang every baffle, level the rows and take all the packaging away with them.
If you are not sure how many baffles a room needs, send us the room dimensions and a photo of the ceiling and we will spec it properly. You can also ring us on +44 (0)2890 770019 and talk the problem through before anything gets ordered.
