Choosing a desk with storage
The main decision is fixed versus mobile. A fixed pedestal sits flush with the desk end and gives you a longer continuous top; the two pedestal versions put storage at both ends and suit anyone who genuinely files paper. A mobile pedestal rolls out when needed, doubles as an occasional visitor perch with a cushion top, and moves with the desk when the layout changes, which fixed pedestals never do.
Then pick the leg. Cantilever is the standard modern look and leaves the floor clear. Panel end reads more traditional and blocks draughts under the desk. Cable managed legs carry power and data up inside the leg itself, which keeps things tidy in rooms without floor boxes. The scalloped edge tops are cut away at the back for cabling and are the right choice when desks sit face to face.

When drawers are not enough, office cupboards and filing cabinets take the bulk, and a bookcase holds the folders you actually reach for. Corner rooms and L shaped layouts get their own combinations over in corner desks, where the same pedestal logic applies to a very different footprint.
